Apartheid Israel escalating aggression on Refugee Camps in the West Bank Ambassador Tamer Almassri strongly condemns the ongoing Israeli military aggression against Palestinian refugee camps and towns in the West Bank, which has entered its 14th consecutive day killing over 25 Palestinians while dozens injured and detained. The attacks, concentrated in Jenin camp, Al-Far'a camp, Tulkarm camp, and the town of Tamoun, south of Tubas, represent a grave escalation of violence and a blatant disregard for international law by the Israeli forces. The scale of destruction is immense, with dozens of homes demolished or blown by fighter jets, displacing over 15,000 innocent Palestinians, especially in Jenin camp. The Israeli criminal military is preventing these displaced families from returning to their homes with a clear intent of ethnic cleansing and a systematic act of genocide as it did in Gaza. The Israeli forces have also besieged the Martyr Thabet Thabet Governmental Hospital and the Israa Specialized Hospital, obstructing the vital work of ambulances and medical crews are being subjected to searches and field investigations, while surrounding buildings are being used as military outposts and sniper locations, further endangering civilians. The state of Palestine demands an emergency and urgent session of the International Security Council, to stop the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Palestinian people and calls on the international community to take immediate action to demand an immediate cessation of Israeli military aggression against Palestinian civilians and hold Israel accountable for its violations of international humanitarian law. The international community must not stand idly by while Israel continues its systematic campaign of violence and displacement against the Palestinian people. The time for decisive action is now.
Zimbabwe Launches ZimSat-2: A Leap into Space Technology By Nomagugu Konke Zimbabwe has made a significant stride in space technology with the successful launch of its second earth observation satellite, ZimSat-2. Launched from Russia's Vostochny Cosmodrome, this cutting-edge satellite is poised to revolutionize various sectors, including agriculture, mining, and urban planning. This agricultural monitoring capability is intended to help farmers adapt to changing environmental conditions, optimise resource use, and potentially increase crop yields. Additionally, by detecting plant nutrient deficiencies and areas affected by stress, ZIMSAT-2 can aid in early interventions to preserve crop health. The satellite’s data could further enhance Zimbabwe’s food security and sustainable agriculture efforts by enabling precision farming techniques. “ZimSat-2 will monitor the earth and support missions to keep track of crop health, predict yields, and identify nutrient deficiencies,” “Developed using modern technologies, ZimSat-2 demonstrates high efficiency and reliability,” said Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr. Jenfan Muswere. The satellite's advanced capabilities will enable precise monitoring of crop health, yield prediction, and nutrient deficiency detection, benefiting Zimbabwe's agriculture sector. It will also aid in mineral exploration by identifying potential deposits, contributing to the growth of the mining industry. Furthermore, ZimSat-2 will play a crucial role in urban planning by providing detailed maps of infrastructure and urban features. This will assist in curbing unplanned settlements and promoting sustainable urban development. "This initiative aligns with our Education 5.0 framework, which promotes heritage-based learning and supports innovations," "The goal is for Zimbabwe to eventually build satellites locally," said Professor Fanuel Tagwira, Secretary for Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science, and Technology Development.
